EEDG plays a key role in permanent changes to

New York State's “Open Meetings Law”

Excerpt from the East Hampton Press May 12th, 2022

On Monday, State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. announced the enactment of permanent changes to the state’s Open Meetings Law, as part of the state budget.

The updated law will also create some provisions that would allow members of the public who wish to serve on public boards to participate in meetings remotely, which would bring the law into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Thiele spoke earlier this week about the updated law, and said he appreciated the input of several constituents who attended the hearing in the fall, including Glenn Hall, an advocate for people with disabilities who runs the non-profit East End Disabilities Group.

“Glenn had a great deal of input, particularly around language in the statute about allowing members of a public body to participate remotely if they have a disability,” he said, adding that Hall’s contributions were also important in making provisions for people who are hearing impaired. “He was a very valuable resource in the drafting of this legislation, and I appreciate his input.”
